Ecuadorian NGO uses Low-cost Digital Whiteboard
31 07 2010 The Ecuadorian organisation CEDEP created a digital whiteboard for under 100 US Dollars. The whiteboard will be used as an interactive tool for trainings and presentations. The board was made by using a Nintendo Wii game console controller and an infrared pen.

21 07 2010 Sahel Solidarité, IICD’s water and sanitation partner in Burkina Faso, set up an internet calling centre where people can contact their relatives abroad. The centre also trains Burkinabe people living abroad how to use Skype.

National Networks in Ghana and Zambia Trained in Video Production
21 07 2010 Video workshops in Ghana and Zambia taught members of their national ICT4D networks to produce, film and edit basic videos to promote the activities of their network. On three different locations 48 people were trained in May and June.

07 07 2010 Students that graduated from Zambia’s Copperbelt College of Education last year were all able to use a computer to plan and present their lessons. “To ensure that all students use computers in their daily work, students have to hand in their assignments in typed form.”
Smart Phones Assist Farmers in Zambia in Faster Organic Certification
07 07 2010 Over 1000 organic farmers throughout Zambia are now able to receive organic certification through the use of smart phones. With the support of IICD a digital data collection system was put in place and people where trained in the use of this new system.
IICD Releases its 2009 Annual Report Online
08 06 2010 IICD released its 2009 Annual Report. The complete report can be viewed online. It shows results, as well as trends in ICT4D in 2009.
Malian Women Launch ‘Women and ICT’ Social Network
07 06 2010 The IICD-supported ‘Women and ICT’ group in Mali launched an online social network in April to promote women’s participation in development by using ICT.
Health Institutions in Malawi Implement Digital Information System
07 06 2010 IICD has helped the Malawian Nkhoma Hospital to implement a hospital management information system (HMIS). This is the first project IICD supports in Malawi.
Cartoons in Burkina Faso Inform Locals about ICT
07 06 2010 A series of cartoons about using information and communication technologies are used in Burkina Faso to inform people in a funny way about computers and the internet. The hand painted cartoons were commissioned by Burkina Faso’s national ICT4D network Burkina NTIC, which is supported by IICD.
Tanzanian Health Network Creates Video in Swahili about Digital Health System
26 05 2010 A multimedia team from the IICD supported ICT for health network in Tanzania, AfyaMtandao, has produced a video about the use of a digital health system for hospitals. The video illustrates the use of the Care2X system.

26 05 2010 Teachers from IICD-supported youth resource centres throughout Zambia are learning to enrich their classes by using computers and are also training their students in computer use. Thomas Ng’ambi is one of these teachers.

Ecuador Partner Makes News Website for and about ‘Regular People’
26 05 2010 “The people that are featured on our website are not ministers or spokespersons of organisations,” says editor Juan Carlos Cabezas of Ecuadorian news website Ciudadania Informada. “We mostly focus on ordinary people on the streets, ‘regular people’.” The IICD supported Ciudadania Informada project is featured in a video that was released earlier this year.
eGovernment Project in Uganda Reflects on Successes and Challenges

This question was recently addressed at a focus group meeting of the Mbarara District Net project in Uganda, operating independently since 2006. IICD’s Hanna Goorden, Uganda country manager, was there and was pleased to discover the project has booked successes.

12 04 2010 The IICD supported programme that provides small-scale farmers in Bolivia with crop price information has been featured on Bolivia’s national television network UNITEL. In the popular morning show ‘La Revista’ two of the project’s managers were guests and a live connection was made with a farmers' market.
IICD Joins United Nations Global Compact
12 04 2010 IICD has been accepted as a participant of the United Nations Global Compact in March. The UN Global Compact is the world's largest corporate citizenship and sustainability initiative.
