Answer
·  What does this site offer?

Newsfordev helps you keep up with the latest news in your area of expertise from carefully selected sources chosen by our team of editors, delivered by RSS technologies. Drawing on a reference base of currently more than 600 newsfeeds, Newsfordev selects the most pertinent newsfeeds to create a number of "dossiers", updates of which you can receive as newsletters, either by email or on-line. You can track your favourite sources by setting up a personal news page, and even incorporate your own newsletters based on customised searches of the ever growing database of articles cached from all sources. You can also share news with other users. To increase the usefulness  of the service, we encourage you to suggest new sources for inclusion.

·  How does Newsfordev differ from Google News?

Newsfordev contains numerous sources not found in Google news, especially institutional sources which do not have the same update frequency as most media/journalism sites.

·  How does Newfordev differ from other sites which manage newsfeeds such as Bloglines, Netvibes or iGoogle?

While there are superficial similarities, Newsfordev works on a different level to other generic applications for managing personalised collections of feeds. Think of Newsfordev as a "smorgasbord" of newsfeeds related to particular topics selected by editors. The added value comes from the selection of specific topics and the most relevant sources.

·  What is a source?

A source (or news source) is a website that regularly publishes new press releases, articles or documents. Our collection of sources is growing apace (currently more than 600). New sources are added on a daily basis according to closely defined editorial criteria. Once included in the collection, sources are checked continuously for new articles - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - and stored in the Newsfordev database. Some, but by no means all, sources are included in dossiers.

·  What is an article?

An article is an individual news item obtained from a source which is cached in the main database.

·  What is a dossier?

A dossier is a collection of feeds, selected by the editors as being most pertinent to the theme in question. All dossiers can be received as email newsletters. The database of sources contains many other sources which is why it is useful to make custom searches of the full articles database.

·  What is a newsletter?

A newsletter is an email sent to the user on a daily basis from a particular thematic dossier (e.g. Climate change). Personalised newsletters can also be set up based on (1) a selection of particular news sources,  or (2) key word searches based on the full database of articles.

·  What is a "Customised search"?

You can set up a personalised newsletter based on a search of the frequently updated articles database.

·  What are newsfeeds?

Newsfeeds are commonly delivered in the RSS format, which have been called "live bookmarks" , essentially a popular file format used to exchange and disseminate information. While Newsfordev employs RSS technology to bring you the latest news, you do not need an RSS program or any knowledge of RSS whatsoever to make use of our services.

·  Are you authorized to publish news from other websites?

The news services offered at this website help you to track news and receive updates by e-mail. Our news updates do not contain full publications. They are news overviews that refer you directly to the original source. Copyrights may apply to news summaries that we provide as part of our free services. Therefore, we urge you to use our services only for personal, non-commercial purposes.
