RWANDA'S athletes are set to battle for a slice of $245,000 cash prize money in today's World Half Marathon Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Rwanda has Dieudonne Disi, Sylvain Rukundo, Gervais Hakizimana in the men's race wand Angelline Nyiransabimana female in the women's race.

Leading runners from across the world will also have the individual gold medal in their sights as much as team glory.

Favorite to deny the Rwandan athletes' a chance for the medals and a slice of cash prize money are Eritrea's Tadese, Kenya's Patrick Makau Musyoki and Ethiopia's Deriba Merga who finished fourth at the Beijing Olympic Games.

In the female category, Kenyan turned Dutch Lornah Kiplagat will be holding centre stage again today but despite her vast confidence she knows there are some tough rivals in the race. Rwanda's Nyiransabimana is an outsider to win.
