Alternative fuels will be the focus of two statewide conferences later this year in Oklahoma City.
"Grow: The Oklahoma Biofuels Conference" will be Nov. 12-13 at the Skirvin Hotel, while the first-ever "Revolution" wind energy conference will be Dec. 2-3 at the Cox Convention Center.
The biofuels meeting will cover new research into fuels such as cellulosic ethanol and biodiesel.
Another topic will be the new Oklahoma Bioenergy Center, which recently planted 1,000 acres of switchgrass in the Panhandle for a trial run to produce an ethanol feedstock.
Other topics will include new energy initiatives stemming from the 2008 Farm Bill, biorefinery construction and the "food versus fuel" debate over corn-based ethanol.

The wind energy conference will feature Boone Pickens, who is investing in wind farm projects, and Nature Conservancy CEO Mark Tercek. The meeting will cover questions about the economics of wind energy, transmission and distribution challenges, and the industry's effects on agriculture and other land uses.
