France’s EDF bids for British Energy

EDF says takeover will contribute to affordable power, emissions reductions

The board of directors at UK-based British Energy is unanimously recommending the approval of a bid by French power provider EDF, offered yesterday. EDF’s UK subsidiary EDF Energy says that it aims to reduce the carbon produced from the company’s UK power generation by 60% by 2020, and says the new partnership will help both companies secure affordable power for their customers in the long term, as well as reduce carbon emissions.
