Signing EPAs: Senegalese unions demand postponement
|
Although preferential agreements have already been signed between the EU and a number of ACP countries, customs barriers will not be falling any time soon. To turn the signing of the hotly-contested Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) into a success story, five Senegalese trade unions are pressing for a three-year delay in signing. The Senegalese unions (Csa, Cnts/Fc, Cnts, Unsas, Udts) are affiliated to the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and are members of the Platform of Non-State Actors. They recently attended a two-day capacity-building seminar (27-29 August 2008) on EPAs in the aim of increasing their involvement.
