Kaduna State government has reaffirmed its commitment to raising the socio-economic status of women in the state.
State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Maryamu Laka Madami, stated this at the inauguration and capacity building training organised by a new non-governmental organisation, Lift Nigeria Women Association (LINWA), with the aim of assisting women towards raising their economic standard.
She said the formation of the association of such magnitude came at a very critical situation of changing the roles of women in modern society, in which the government would not relent in assisting such organisation, and to partner and encourage women to come out en masse and contribute their quota towards the attainment of desired development goals set by both national and international bodies.
At the occasion, the association's president,Mrs. Leah Akut, expressed appreciation to the Co-coordinator of the association, Okponong Godwin, a serving National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) member in the state, for reawakening the quest for self-actualisation of women having trained them on various skill acquisition in which if given little support, would make a financial change in their lives, saying "We commend and appreciate the sacrifices and hard work exhibited by this young lad (Okponong Godwin) for making us discover the God-given potential in us, to make use of it in order to contribute our quota to a sustainable development".
In his address Okponong Godwin said, "The love and zeal we have in ensuring National Growth motivates us to come up with a remarkable and marvelous project of this kind, to impact a positive image in whatever community we find ourselves after the service year, in fact it is not easy because there are a lot of obstacles encountered along the way, most especially financial implications, we have to solely rely on our allowances to marshal such project but a little luck came up at last through an NGO, namely LAPO, which provided support for completion ofthe project".
