Reforming energy subsidies - UNEP report

UN Environment Programme (UNEP) issued a report Reforming energy subsidies: opportunities to contribute to the climate change agenda (full-text, 284 KB) The report focuses on the various types of energy subsidies, their size and impact and the direct relationship with climate change and sustainable development. It claims that:

Subsidies that encourage the use of fossil fuels often harm the environment through higher emissions of noxious and greenhouse gases. Subsidies that promote the use of renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies may, on the other hand, help to reduce emissions.
