Each lead paper will contain a survey the global literature in the relevant area, identify policy research issues/questions, survey the methodological approaches being used to analyze some of the issues and propose research agenda for Africa. These lead papers should stimulate interest of network members in investigating these issues and be submitted by the end of August. Subsequently the AERC plan to organize a series of capacity building workshops to enable the development of good quality research projects under the Thematic Research modalities. Suggestions for possible authors should be sent to AERC.

For each of the papers commissioned, AERC will offer $5000. AERC will also provide roundtrip ticket to the conference in Nairobi scheduled for September 15-17, 2008 and provide hotel accommodation as well meet other travel-related expenses.
